Quick answer: Queenstown is New Zealand’s adventure capital, on the shores of Lake Wakatipu below the Remarkables mountains: bungy jumping, jet boating, the Skyline gondola, wineries, ski fields and day trips to Milford Sound. The airport is just 15 minutes from town (NZD 2.50 by bus with a Bee Card). Most visitors need an NZeTA (NZD 17 in the app) plus the NZD 100 visitor levy. Summer (December–March) is best for hiking; June–September for skiing.

Plan 3–4 days in Queenstown, including one long day for Milford Sound. Add Wanaka or Glenorchy if you have more time.
