Dubai is perfect for a sunny winter break: modern skyscrapers, beaches, huge malls and the desert right next door. Four days covers the essentials.

Top things to do in Dubai

  1. Burj Khalifa — book sunset tickets early for the best views from the world’s tallest building.
  2. Desert safari — dune bashing, camel rides and a dinner under the stars.
  3. Old Dubai — take an abra boat across the Creek to the gold and spice souks for about 1 dirham.
  4. Dubai Mall & Fountain show — free fountain shows every evening.
  5. Jumeirah Beach & Kite Beach — free public beaches with views of the Burj Al Arab.
  6. Museum of the Future — a striking building with immersive exhibitions — book ahead.

The most popular sights sell out in high season, so check skip-the-line tickets and guided tours in Dubai a few days before you go — most can be cancelled for free.

Where to stay in Dubai

Choosing the right area makes a big difference. Here are our favourite neighbourhoods — whatever your budget, compare hotel prices in Dubai and pick a room with free cancellation.

  • Downtown — next to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
  • Dubai Marina / JBR — beach, promenade and restaurants.
  • Deira / Al Fahidi — budget-friendly and traditional.
  • Palm Jumeirah — luxury resorts and private beaches.

Getting around

The Dubai Metro is clean, cheap and air-conditioned; get a Nol card. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are good value for short trips. The metro red line connects the airport (Terminals 1 and 3) to the city.

Want to explore the surroundings at your own pace? Compare car rental prices in Dubai — booking ahead is usually much cheaper than at the counter.

Practical tips

  • Summer (June–September) is extremely hot — plan indoor activities.
  • Dress modestly in malls and traditional areas; swimwear is for beaches and pools.
  • Alcohol is served only in licensed venues, mostly hotels.
  • Respect local customs, especially during Ramadan.
