The route, stop by stop

  3. Bronte: a grassy park with barbecues, cafés and a rock pool at the south end — the safest swim on this stretch. From Bondi it’s about a 40-minute walk (source).
  4. Waverley Cemetery: a striking clifftop cemetery with ocean views.
  5. Clovelly: a long, calm inlet that’s great for swimming and snorkelling.
  6. Gordons Bay: a rocky cove with a 500 m underwater nature trail for divers (source).
  7. Coogee: finish with a swim, the Giles Baths rock pool and fish and chips.

Tips for the Bondi to Coogee walk

  1. Start early in summer — there’s little shade and the path gets busy by late morning.
  2. Bring water, sunscreen and a hat — the Australian sun is strong.
  3. Pack your swimmers for Bronte, Clovelly or Coogee.
  4. Look for whales from the cliffs between about May and November.
  5. Sculpture by the Sea: each spring (around October–November), a free outdoor sculpture exhibition lines the Bondi–Tamarama section — expect crowds.
  6. Check for detours: sections occasionally close for maintenance or cliff repairs.

Where to stay near the beaches

Bondi and Coogee are great beach bases, but transport to the centre is by bus. Coogee is calmer and usually cheaper than Bondi (source). Compare options in where to stay in Sydney or see hotels in Bondi.
