Metro line E (the best option)

The metro station is directly outside arrivals. Line E (violet) runs to Trindade, the central interchange, where you can switch to any other line or walk to Aliados and the Baixa in minutes.

  • Ticket: buy a blue Andante card (€0.60) loaded with a Z4 trip (€2.30) from the machines. Validate before boarding.
  • Frequency: every 20–30 minutes, roughly 6am to 1am.
  • Tip: keep the card. You can reload it for city trips (Z2) during your stay.

STCP buses

Bus 601 runs to Cordoaria and 602 to Bolhão, taking 45–60 minutes in traffic. Fares are €2.50 if you pay the driver, cheaper with Andante. The night bus 3M covers the hours when the metro is closed.

Taxi, Uber and Bolt

Official taxis wait outside arrivals; expect €25–35 to the centre with a small luggage supplement. Uber and Bolt pick up from the marked rideshare area and are usually cheaper.

Going to the Douro or Braga?

If you plan to explore northern Portugal, picking up a rental car at the airport saves a trip back. Don’t drive in the historic centre, though: streets are steep, narrow and parking is scarce.

Tips

  • Get an eSIM before you fly so maps work the moment you land.
  • The metro gets busy at rush hour; large suitcases are allowed but tricky at peak times.
  • If your hotel is in Vila Nova de Gaia, change at Trindade to line D (yellow).
