Brunelleschi's dome of Florence Cathedral

Florence Duomo Tickets 2026: Brunelleschi Pass & Dome Climb

Florence Duomo tickets explained: the free cathedral, the €30 Brunelleschi Pass with the dome climb, the Giotto and Ghiberti passes, and tips.

Updated October 25, 2026 · 2 min read
Quick answer: Entry to the Florence Cathedral itself is free. The monuments are sold as passes. The Brunelleschi Pass (€30) is the only one that includes the dome climb (463 steps, with a timed slot), plus Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery, the Santa Reparata crypt and the Opera del Duomo Museum. The Giotto Pass (€20) and the Ghiberti Pass (€15) skip the dome. Book the dome slot early, because it sells out.

Brunelleschi’s dome is the symbol of Florence and one of the great feats of architecture. Here’s how the Duomo tickets work.

Duomo passes (2026)

Pass Price Includes
Brunelleschi Pass €30 The dome climb + the Bell Tower + the Baptistery + the crypt + the museum
Giotto Pass €20 The Bell Tower and other monuments, but not the dome
Ghiberti Pass €15 The Baptistery and the museum and crypt, but not the dome or tower
Cathedral nave Free Expect queues outside

Prices are from Florence Tourism. Buy on the official Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore website (duomo.firenze.it), and check which monuments each pass includes on your dates.

The dome climb

  • 463 steps, no lift, with narrow spiral sections. It isn’t suitable for anyone claustrophobic or with heart problems.
  • You walk around the inside of the dome right beside Vasari’s Last Judgement frescoes.
  • From the top, you get a 360° view of Florence’s red rooftops.
  • Arrive on time for your reserved slot. Late arrivals may be refused.

Dome or bell tower?

Giotto’s Bell Tower (414 steps) gives the best view of the dome, with shorter waits. If you can only do one, choose the dome for the experience and the tower for the photos.

Tips

  • Wear covered shoulders and knees for the cathedral.
  • Large bags aren’t allowed on the climbs.
  • Visit the Opera del Duomo Museum for the original Baptistery doors and Michelangelo’s Pietà.
  • Compare guided Duomo tours with the dome climb.
