Barcelona’s airport is 15 km south-west of the city, with two terminals: T1 (most full-service and many low-cost airlines) and T2. This guide compares every option into the centre, with 2026 prices from Travel Guide Barcelona (updated October 2026) and city transport fares from Barcelona Secreta.
All options compared
| Option | Price (2026) | Time to centre | Terminals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aerobús | €7.75 one way | About 35 min to Plaça Catalunya | T1 (A1) and T2 (A2) |
| R2 Nord train | €5.50 | About 20 min to Sants, 27 min to Passeig de Gràcia | T2 only (free shuttle from T1) |
| Metro L9 Sud | €5.90 airport ticket | About 50 min, with a change | T1 and T2 |
| Taxi | About €30–40 (minimum airport fare €21) | 25–45 min | T1 and T2 |
| Private transfer | Varies | 25–45 min | T1 and T2 |
Aerobús: the easiest option
Blue Aerobús coaches leave every 5–20 minutes, 24 hours a day, and stop at Plaça d’Espanya, Gran Via/Urgell, Universitat and Plaça Catalunya. Buy tickets online, at the machines or by tapping a contactless card on board. Make sure you take the right bus back: A1 goes to Terminal 1, A2 to Terminal 2.
R2 Nord train: cheapest from Terminal 2
Trains run about every 30 minutes from Terminal 2 to Barcelona-Sants, Passeig de Gràcia and El Clot. From T1, take the free green shuttle bus to T2 first (allow 15 minutes). A good choice if you’re staying in Eixample near Passeig de Gràcia.
Metro L9 Sud: direct from both terminals
The metro stops at both terminals but needs a special airport ticket (€5.90) — normal metro tickets and the T-casual aren’t valid at airport stations. You change lines (for example at Torrassa or Zona Universitària) to reach the centre, so it’s slower than the Aerobús.
Taxi and private transfer
Official black-and-yellow taxis queue outside both terminals. The fare is metered with a minimum airport fare of €21; most trips to the centre cost about €30–40. Private transfers are easiest for families or late arrivals. Compare Barcelona airport transfers.
Getting around Barcelona
| Ticket (zone 1) | Price 2026 |
|---|---|
| Single journey | €2.90 |
| T-casual (10 trips, one person) | €13.00 |
The T-casual gives 10 journeys for one person on metro, bus, tram and local trains in zone 1, with free transfers within 75 minutes. Multi-day tourist cards (Hola Barcelona) are also sold at metro stations. The metro runs from 5:00 to midnight Sunday–Thursday, until 2:00 on Fridays and all night on Saturdays.
Tips
- Check your terminal: low-cost airlines often use T2, others T1.
- Watch your luggage on the Aerobús and the metro — pickpockets target airport routes.
- Use the Aerobús at night: it runs 24 hours, unlike the train and metro.
- Buy a Spain eSIM before you fly — compare Spain eSIMs.
- Read the carry-on liquids rules before your flight home.
