Prague has a continental climate: warm summers, cold winters and pleasant shoulder seasons. Here’s how each time of year compares.

| Winter (Nov–Mar) | 1–6°C | Low (except Christmas) | Christmas markets, cosy pubs, possible snow |
Spring and early summer
Parks bloom, café terraces open and the Prague Spring classical music festival takes over concert halls in May and June. It’s one of the most pleasant times to explore on foot.
Summer
Expect the biggest crowds on the Charles Bridge and at the castle. Beer gardens at Letná and Riegrovy sady are in full swing. Go to the busiest sights first thing in the morning. See our Prague Castle tickets guide.
Autumn
September is still warm, and October brings autumn colours and quieter streets. It’s ideal for day trips to Kutná Hora or Český Krumlov.
Winter and the Christmas markets
From late November to early January, Christmas markets with mulled wine, trdelník and a giant tree fill Old Town Square. After the holidays, January to March is cold and quiet, with the lowest hotel prices of the year.
