Vienna districts compared
| District | Best for | Downsides |
|---|---|---|

| 6th, Mariahilf | Shopping street, the Naschmarkt | Busy Mariahilfer Strasse |
| 4th, Wieden | The Naschmarkt, the Belvedere, a calm feel | Slightly further from the Hofburg |
| 2nd, Leopoldstadt | The Prater, the Danube Canal, value | A U-Bahn ride to most museums |
| 3rd, Landstraße | The airport train, the Belvedere | Less atmospheric |
Innere Stadt: best for first-timers
Inside the Ringstrasse you’re steps from St Stephen’s, the Hofburg, the opera and the coffee houses. It’s ideal for short trips, especially in winter.
Neubau and Mariahilf: best all-rounders
These lively districts are full of independent shops, cafés and restaurants. The MuseumsQuartier and the Naschmarkt are nearby, and you can walk to the centre in 10–20 minutes.
Wieden: best for a local feel
Wieden is elegant and residential, close to the Naschmarkt, Karlskirche and the Belvedere. It’s a good choice for couples and longer stays.
Leopoldstadt: best value near the centre
Across the Danube Canal, Leopoldstadt has the Prater, the Karmelitermarkt and bars along the canal. Several U-Bahn lines run to the centre in minutes.
